Hey all,

So, I'm working on this simple one page site that will showcase some conference and event speakers that talk about social media, online community, etc.

I'm open to whatever you might come up with. I view it as having a glossy look to it. I know that's not terribly helpful. Also, the logo will be at the top center of the page, so it will stand out upon load. There is no navigation, sidebars, etc. So, it really will be a focal point. That's why it is very important to get something attractive.

The logo should read "Social Media Speakers" (without the quotes). Alignment of those words is up to you.

In exchange, you will be credited in the footer on the site with a link and I'll plug your services a couple of times on my personal Twitter stream. It's not much, but it's all I could think of right now. If you have an idea of how I could help you, I'm open to discussing that, as well.

Full rights to the work selected will revert to me. I will also need to have the Photoshop source file and will need to know what fonts were used.

I appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to any and all entries. :)

Thanks,

Patrick

Do you have a specific name in mind?

Thanks for the reply, Mike. Sorry that that wasn't made clear.

The logo should read "Social Media Speakers" (without the quotes). Alignment of those words is totally up to you.

I have updated the initial post to make this clear.

Thanks again,

Patrick

Hey Patrick,
Here are a couple of ideas I put together quickly. Let me know if you want to use one and I will give it a bit better treatment. Also let me know if you have a preferred font.

Thanks for the replies, niftyned and MartinW. :) I appreciate you taking a crack at it and will do my best to provide some feedback.

Interesting interpretation, niftyned. I would say that both of these have a certain amount of sex appeal, but that, unfortunately, it wouldn't fit within the professional appearance that we'll need to have.

I don't mean that it can't be bold or flashy, etc., but just that a woman's lipstick mark, etc. generally might make people uncomfortable, both male and female event planners. I hope that that makes sense.

MartinW, actual speakers, nice. :) In general, the type of speaking that we'll be doing is on stage, maybe at a podium. So, the iconography doesn't necessarily fit what people might expect from this sort of speaking (in my opinion).

In general, with both (and everyone), the logo should reflect the current trends with logos that some would term "web 2.0 styling." I just think of it as another type of good design, but some characterize it with the wave of social sites that have risen in the last few years. So, I wanted to mention that, as well.

Thanks again. I definitely appreciate your time.

Patrick

Hey Patrick,
No problem, I wasnt going for sexy so much as I was trying to imply that the speakers in question were orators rather than wooden boxes that emit music. I knocked up a quick alternative that I believe is more in keeping with the web 0.2 style that you were after.

Not really my style and I'm certainly no logo freak (retouching only) but every so often I think it's good to contribute, so here it is.

I don't have too much time to spend, but I found a some free time and devoted it to this. Concept was a bit hard to come by and I may have missed several elements along the way (a sense of community etc.) Colours are also a little garish (can be made one colour).

I had several cleaner roughs but they didn't suit the style you wanted (not that I am sure I have anyway).

Anyhow here goes.

It can be revised to another style or thematically to an extent, depending upon workload and your time-scale.

Thank you, niftyned and Mike. :) I appreciate you taking the time to create these.

niftyned, I would say that this is better (without the 6 boxed logos of other brands to the left and right as they couldn't be a part of the logo itself), but that it still isn't really what I am looking for, sorry. Thanks again, though.

Mike, thanks for jumping in. There are definitely elements of this that I like. The speaker icon is interesting. I think that I might like the text more if it was to the right of the icon. I agree with you on the colors, I don't really like them either. Something a little more tame colorwise might be good. :) The font, or maybe the styling of it, isn't something I like a lot, either. I know that's not the most helpful thing to say.

Anyway, I know that you don't have a lot of time to dedicate to this, as you mentioned in your post, so no worries on trying anything different. I appreciate you putting this entry out there.

Thanks again,

Patrick
