Hello there,

I have a file that I'd like to export as a transparent image but have the layer effects still be present on that semi transparency. Each time I turn off the bottom layer color, the transparency turns white and when I export it won't show transparent.

Is there a way to do this with the attached image?

Thanks,
Lorne

Save as .png or .gif, PNG has a lot higher quality, so I'd go for PNG.
That's it...

Hello Raven,

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately when I save as PNG, it turns the translucent layer to white. Because layer effects don't work unless theirs a color below them.

Is it possible to keep it transparent?

Thanks,
Lorne

PS-I'm using CS5.

Well, that's strange, when I save as PNG it saves trasparency just the way it is.

OOOOH, I think I get your point now...
You have an effect, but not an underground for it to work on, is that right?
Uhm, I've had problems like this too... Don't remember how I fixed that though, sorry.

If it's for a website, you can always look up the HTML code of the color and just use that as background of the image.

Raven,

That's exactly what I plan to use it for. So when someone selects an image the background html changes color, and translucent PNG is on top and makes the shirt change colors. Even though it's just the background.

Does anyone have any pointers to fix this?

Thanks,
Lorne

Thanks,
Lorne

You can either rasterize the layer styles by right clicking the layer with effects, this will put the effects on the same layer as your as your layer

Or

You could rightclick inside the fx box and click make layers, this will put them out as seperate layers so you can still fine tweak everything.

For bothoptions I'd advise to have any effects that are outside your orginal layer (ie drop shadow, outer glow, outer bevel etc) set to normal as a blending mode, just to be sure of having the same effectafter saving.

Thanks for the reply Rarity.

However I can't get those options to work? I have a layer that doesn't have any FX effect on it, it has the multiply, color burn, etc. When I turn the colored layer off below the image with the layer style, it makes the background white and not transparent.

I am trying to figure out a way to save the layer style with multiple as a transparent png so when I layer it outside of photoshop (i.e. HTML on a website) I can still change the color of my shirts.

Does that make sense?

Thanks for the help,
Lorne

Lorne,
Could you maybe upload some screenshots? So it will be easier to see what you want done and where?

As I do have an idea of what you're trying to do and I might just know a solution to that..
- if you are using the multiply to make the image transparent that is.

Here are some screenshots Rarity.

I also have the actual PSD attached to the first post. I had to make that original PSD file extremely small to make it small enough to attach.

Thanks,
Lorne
