I am trying to create a pattern with an image but am wondering if you can determine how you want the patterned to be filled on the page-how many, how far apart etc? TIA!!

A pattern and it's spacing is fixed by it's design. But it is essentially just a brush, so you can alter it's behavior with the brush engine.

If that doesn't give you the effect you want, it's relatively simple to create another pattern with different spacing if you need it...
