I doubt if any monitor now displays 72 ppi and I'd guess that 96 ppi is the most common.
So if I download an image that's at 72 and change it to 96 in Photoshop while resizing.
Am I making the image quality better, worse, or neither?

Measure the width of your screen in inches. Then take the pixel width and divide the it by the inches.
That will give the actual pixels per inch of your monitor.
But...You can leave it at 72 for your editing, the only time the files PPI will make a real difference is when you print. |

My monitor is 96 ppi and I didn't realize that the change only affected printing.
I've read about this so many times (like many others) but it didn't sink in.
Hopefully this time it will.
