|
|
I have some irregular shapes pure black on white background. I want to be able to make an outline with a fixed pixel size- quite small - less than 20 pixels around the inside edge as though I had taken a brush and carefully run it around the edge- it need to be more precise that what I can do by hand
I'm not suer yet whether the inside of the line should b hard or soft edge when it touches the colour, the outside edge can overlap the shape as it will be masked out- to leave a hard outside edge |

Not sure exactly what it is you are wanting to do. But it sounds like you could do it with a stroke (layer style). Double click on the layer (in the layer pallet) that you want to add a style to. A new window will open. Click on stroke at the bottom of the list. A black 3 pixel outside stroke is the default. Use the color chooser to change the color to your preference. Then in the pulldown where outside is selected, change it to inside. Then all you have to do is adjust the size.
If this isn't what you are going for, stop back and maybe post an image (even if it is rough) to give everyone a better idea how to help.
Regards,
Dave
PS,
That will dreate a hard edged line. If you decide to go for a soft edge, this wont work. |

That is so incredibly perfect and simple - that will save me hours of work
And what makes it better is that I'm also looking at a PS file I purchased yesterday that uses style/stroke for another effect and I had no idea what they where doing - since I've only used blend for text effects |

Glad to hear. If you decide to go with a soft edge, play around with Inner glow. Access it the same way as stroke. you may need to set the blend mode for the inner glow to normal depending on the color you choose.
