Just trawling the net and found this link:
http://cs5launch.adobe.com/
It's a presentation about the whole Creative Suite, but I recommend watching the Photography section of the video. It breaks the 60 Min video into bite size chunks for anyone interested in specifics.
So, anyone dug deep and purchased yet? I am sorely tempted to send my cash as I haven't upgraded Photoshop since CS2 and some of the features seem worth it. _________________ If life serves you lemons, make lemonade! |

Thinking about it. I noticed that they finally came out with a subsciption format. You can pay for just one month or subscribe for 12 months for a lower cost. Which is handy for anyone starting out who cant afford the up front cost of the whole thing. I have pre ordered the trial discs but they wont be available here till late June. There would have to be some pretty significant improvements to make the upgrade from CS4 worth the dollars they ask for though. _________________ The only limitation is my imagination. |

I will buy it but i need to know what the different between Photoshop CS5 and PhotoShop CS5 extend? Its seems to me that it's the same but idk.
Also @ niftyned
I don't know what you mean about this "subsciption" because I don't have PS, i go to my school to use there PS CS4. But I've known for a long time about CS5 and i have the money for it but I can only pay this much money for a program one time.
I hope that way clear enough for you all to understand. |

Icesamurai,
At the company I used to work for we had a lot of young designers, drafties and interns who were employed on a contract basis and as such they all had the same complaint, the software they used every day was financially out of reach for most of them. I contacted the two major ones, Adobe and Autocad, on numerous occassions to request a payment method that would allow these young people to pay on a month by month basis, kind of like a mobile phone plan. Finally they have introduced such a scheme. You can even buy a one month license from Adobe now for $199AUD or sign up for a 12month subscription for $149AUD. For anyone who is starting out or who doesnt have a constant flow of work and cant afford the up front cost it is a good thing. _________________ The only limitation is my imagination. |

Community College Students can buy Creative Suite through a student license. I don't know how many people concerned about cost have access to community college. We have them in California. The cost for classes is pretty low. |

There's always a bit more capacity in terms of being able to use Photoshop for video and 3D in the extended versions. Unless you're heavily into that you probably don't need it and can just use the regular version.
Either way CS5 is definitely worth the upgrade though, IMHO. Some major improvements and some new features that will knock your socks off if you are a still a version or two behind. Actually the install went a whole lot easier this time and I was able to keep both versions on my system without any real issues.
Adobe says you're supposed to be able to do that every time, but I've had serious problems with that since CS3 and inevitably I have always ended up having to remove any older version to make things work right with the install which isn't ideal.
I always prefer to use both versions, the old and the new for a while until I get used to the new one's quirks. It really annoys me when I can't. I don't like having to reset up all my preferences and plugs until I am really fluid with using the new version. Also, you never know at first what will be compatible and what won't and I don't like giving up all my favorite add ons until the makers of those catch up with Adobe. It interrupts my work flow far too much.
So far I am really liking the CS5 upgrade. About the only complaint I have is that although it went fine it took forever to download and install the new versions of my favorite Adobe applications. I have a fairly new computer, a dual core with more than enough RAM to spare and I still spent half the night getting the 4 applications I use downloaded, up and running. The downloads at Adobe are a bit slow and the actual install is too unfortunately.
I could have read a whole Stephen King novel while sitting there, seriously... |

Wow! I just tried to open CS3 this a.m. after getting CS5 and everything has pretty much disappeared except the icon, which, when opened, leads directly to CS5. There are things I need to use CS3 for??? _________________ I JUST received Photoshop CS5 Extended and have two big problems!
1. I can't minimize the screen to ADD LAYERS
2. Did the extraction, as per lynda's tutorial and went perfect. Tried to do an EXTRACTION twice using a photo I with lots of curly hair and YIKES, part of my ORIGINAL had become TRANSPARENT!!! Tried it again....following the instructions to the letter...the same thing happened. WHUZZZZ ZUP????
