I'd like to photograph a collection of guitars and I'm sure some form of lighting will be a big help.

Does anyone know if off camera flash or continuous lighting will be a help, is one better than the other, or is there a better method?

Apologies for so many questions.

Cheers
Barry

Continuous lighting is just as good as strobes, but they are hot to work under. Your guitars won't mind the heat but people do. Plus they are relatively cheap.

Off camera flash is another way to go. They can be had rather cheaply unless you buy the newest ETTL flashes.

Then there are studio type monolight strobes. They are very stable, adjustable, and are made to be used steadily without overheating.

But really it's not so much the form of lighting as it is the modifiers used on the lights. For any lighting you'll need stands, umbrellas, softboxes, etc., and a way to trigger them.

You can even buy color balanced light bulbs and just use a bulb holder behind a white sheet to get soft light. It all depends on what you want to do and how much you want to spend.
