Maybe it was a false positive from spybot....it wouldn't be the first time. Still, best to be safe than sorry :0 )

Based on some the comments, I was a bit paranoid, so I ran a system check for spyware and other viruses on my machine and it was clean. I also had another friend who is an IT professional perform a check as well to ensure that my machine hasn't been compromised and he gave me the green light as well.

Due to the size of the .psd, I decided to zip it to meet the upload criteria of the site. As Patrick noted, the only file contained in the zip was a .psd file illustrating the error/problem that I am still having.

I apologize for not stating what was in the zipped folder or providing clarification earlier.

Yeah. I have no idea why PS acts that way. But it does.

There are atleast 2 ways to handle this issue.

First way::: All you need to do is Right click on the layer with the gradient and select Create Layer from the menu.

Second way (and better IMO)::: Right Click on the layer with the gradient and select Convert to Smart Object.

With the first, you lose the ability to adjust the gradient easily. With the second, among other things, you retain the ability to edit the gradient as easily as you normally would. In order to edit it, simply right click on the name of that layer and select Edit Contents. It will open in another window where you can edit it. Then you save it (Ctrl+S) and close it up. The changes you made will update on the original image.

Hope it helps and sorry for the confusion on the spyware.

Regards,
Dave
