Hi,

I'm new to the forum and very much a photoshop novice!

I have an image of an alpine mountain range and want to get the outline of the mountain range so I am left with just the line, not the whole silhouette. I have done it using the pen tool, but this is quite a lengthy process and got me thinking there must be an easier way?

Can anyone point me in the right direction? Or is the pen tool my best option?

Thanks in advance.
Rob

Use the magic want to select the sky.

Make a new layer and fill it with any colour.

Set a stroke in the blending options to the size and colour of your liking, I'd advice aligning the stroke to the outside of the layer though.

Right click the Fx icon and press 'Create layer'.

Now delete the layer the stroke came from so you are just left with the stroke.

You additionally could crop the picture to the picture's size with 'Delete cropped pixels' selected to ensure the line is a line and not a box.

You can edit the line using all other tools to tweak it to your liking.

Important reminder would be all of this being based of the selection of the sky, so keep fiddling the tolerance numbers and refine its edge when needed to create the perfect selection.
