Can anyone inform me on how to create an image similar to the one shown on the banner image on the web site http://www.scotgen.org.uk/. It the line swishes i am looking to recreate. Any help appreciated.

That could be done using a transform step and repeat. Here is a video tutorial where Corey Barker uses that method about a third of the way into the video.
