Hi people

sorry, really basic question, Im a mac user using photoshop CS4.
Ive only just started using it, and was following a tutorial on this site
http://www.melissaclifton.com/tutorial-popart.html

now i got to the section where you cut around the image, invert the selection and then delete the outside area.
I have inverted the image, but i cant delete teh outside areas. I cant see a delet option, and when i simply press delete on the key board i just end up deleting the line ive created around the image.

Any ideas?

thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Have you pressed Ctrl+Shift+I to Invert the selection (Cmd+Shift+I on the Mac)?

hi and thanks!

ok i inverted it by going to image>adjustments>invert

and on the layers tabs, the image is of two ppl, and the colours have 'swapped' over so im assuming it has inverted.

(whe i mean two ppl, i mean the image im editing is of two ppl lol)

You have to invert the selection, not the image itself. Image>adjustments>invert will invert the colors.

After you make the selection, use the shortcut as manaquin suggested or click Select-Inverse.

ok I have made the selection as the tutorial asks, but when i go to Select>inverse it is grayed out and I cant select the option.

When I do the short cut for the Mac of "command +I" it just turns the image into a negative image which i dont think is what the tutorial wants me to do in the link i stated earlier,

Im totally frustrated with it, help!
