I'm using a 48-bit scanner (scanning within photoshop with 48 bit enabled) and I'm a little confused reading photoshop's 'Metadata' info on my pictures. When I scan at 300 DPI and at 48 bit, saved as a .tif the metadata will say 16 as the Bit Depth. Does this sound right? Why dont it say 48-bit? If I use another image editing program it does say 48 bit. What does the 16 Bit Depth mean?

That’s 16 bit depth per channel in an RGB file. So 16 X 3 (Red, Blue and Green) equals 48. |
