My source photos look like this:

There is plenty of overlap. Yet when I photomerge in CS4, I get a distorted result like this:



What gives?

When you used Photomerge you probably left the "Layout" option on "Auto", which also adjusts for perspective. I've found that Photoshop does a pretty poor job when adjusting for perspective (Evidence A: your panorama), so I usually use "Reposition Only" or "Interactive Layout" options.
