I have a scan of a pencil sketch as my background image. What I want to do is convert to colour image then, eventually, lose the pencil lines.

For starters I would like to know how to flood fill an area with colour then get rid of the area's boundary line. I guess a valid solution might be along one of the following lines:

1. Flood fill, depositing the colour in one layer but using a boundary line in a different one.

2. Copy the sketch to another layer, fill the areas then somehow delete the lines.

3. Flood fill in one layer then copy the block of colour only, not the surrounding line, and paste into another layer.

Any suggestions? As of a week ago I'd never used Photoshop so don't assume I know anything.

Actually, I've got a bit further. I have found I can use the magic wand to pick a block of colour and paste it into a new layer. That's sort of OK but I cannot find a way to put two or more blocks of colour into the same layer. Every time I paste, it creates a new layer.

Is there a way around this?

Dont think you can copy and paste to the same layers, but, you can "merge" any layers you have selected,

so make your edits, then select the multiple layers you wish to combine, and go to "layer/merge selected".

Thanks Salvadore. I've only been using this application for a week but I'm learning fast.

One other option is to select a portion of the image you want to fill and then on the layer you want to pixels to be on, select that layer and fill the selection you made.

So, open the image you are using, make a selection, create a new layer and fill the selection, then activate the original layer, make another selection, activate your new "Fill" layer, and fill the selection.
