I'm new to Photoshop - I am trying to follow this tutorial http://psd.tutsplus.com/interface-tutorials/how-to-create-a-grunge-web-design-in-photoshop/. How do I create the notched edge look in step 2. I tried searching but I don't know what it's called.

Just select the triangular areas with the polygonal lasso tool and then delete them.
