Make sure the logo is on it's own layer, not the background layer.
Choose the elliptical marquee tool.
Left click and hold on the center of your logo, then hold down you ALT and SHIFT keys.
Pull your mouse pointer out away from the center of the logo until the marquee is a circle surrounding your logo.
Let go of left click, then go to the select menu and choose inverse.
Now press the delete key to remove the rectangles white edges that are not part of the circle.

Done.

Sorry to be so dumb, but I have not touched Photoshop for 10 years. How do i go about the layers? Open Photoshop; place logo in; then create a second layer? How?

Thank you

Sorry to be so inept but having got a background and a layer, when I try to drag the image from the desktop to the layer it automatically assumes the background!

Help....

Luckily for you the help files of Photoshop are only a button press away, try F1 for context help.
