Hi! Hoping someone can offer up some tips! I can't figure out how to
add a filled in blocked background to rows of text. Attached a graphic to help
Illustrate what I am trying to do.

With the colour being on opposite ends of the spectrum, you should just be able to use the paint bucket tool and click in the areas you want changing :)

I don't think there is a specific text tool option to apply a background colour to the text.

As a work around you could try using the rectangle tool to put coloured rectangles on layers below the type.
