As you can tell by my post count, I'm new, but I seriously need some help!

I have a background metal texture that I created. In the foreground, I have a cut out shape. What I want to do is transfer the background texture onto the foreground (stamp it on there sort of kinda). How do I do this? Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Also, why can't I access the Lighting Effects menu? I'm using CS3 and rather new to it. After being with Photoshop 7 for several years, I finally made the upgrade. Just confused on why it and other Filters are turned off. Thanks!

Swap the texture layer so its above the shape layer, set the layer to overlay.

A clipping layer should also work. Put the texture layer on top and select it, hit alt+ctrl+G. (Or Layer-Create Clipping Mask)

Some filters are not available if the image is in 16 or 32 bit mode.
