If you duplicate the layer the whole thing will be copied. In future open a new (transparent ) layer above your background layer and work on that.Do this by pressing shift/ctrl/n on the keyboard. If you have been working on a copy, it might be best to just delete it and start again; if you have been working on the original file ( which you should never do)try selecting your line with one of the selection tools and then press ctrl/j.The line will appear on a new transparent layer.
You will be able to move the line by pressing the v key to get the move tool.
If you have any problems with any of this, just ask again. |

That's because once something is created it that layer, everything within becomes part of the same object. You might want to just create new layers if you wish to create something and have that object moved. Create the line on a new layer, and you can either duplicate the layer, or use selection tools to copy and paste that line into another layer, and use Transform options to rotate and alter that line if need be. You might also want to look into Smart Objects.
If you have Adobe Illustrator, a vector graphics program, then you can create, alter, etc any object you create without using layers on simple projects. |
