I am trying to make a background or an overlay of this pattern i created. i want to drop the opacity on all of it and be able to edit all of the parts of the image with one action, instead of all of the layers seperately.

all of the graphics are seperate layers on their own. i took and created new layers out of one another, from an original. so i have like 15 or so of them. is there a way to lock/join/merge them together into one, single editable layer?

i want to drag it onto another image and make them translucent. i can link them (with the little chain symbol on my layers window) and drag them all, but then if i try to do any editing, it will only do one at a time.

Thanks!

What version are you using? I know in CS4 and (I think) CS3 there is a neat little item called a Smart Object.

Take the layers that make up the "48 Eddie Kraft". Ctrl+click all the layers. Right click on one of those layers in the layers pallet and select "Convert to Smart Object".

Drag a copy of that Smart Object to your new document. Make as many copies as you need and place them however you want.

Ok. Got them where you want them and want to change something? Right click on one of the layer names in the layer pallet. From the menu select Edit Contents. You will get a message reminding you that after editing you need to save the document. Click OK.

Change what you need to change in that document. When you are satisfied, Ctrl+S to save it. You can close it or leave it open. Go back to your other document and notice how every copy of that Smart Object has updated to show the changes you just made.

More info can be found on this page and many more on the web: http://psd.tutsplus.com/tutorials/tools-tips/tools-tips-smart-objects-and-smart-filters/

Regards,
Dave

thanks dave, unfortunately i am only using photoshop 7, i cant even find a way to select two layers on the pallet. when i do Ctrl+click it does "Load Selection" in my actions history.

i guess once i know the percentage of opacity i want i could fairly quickly do it on all 15 layers or so. but guess i figured there would be a way to join the layers together into one. or Lock them so they get identical edits.
