Hi everyone so I just got back from a music festival and I took lots of picture. When I got back I thought it would be fun to use photoshop to mess with them. I had the idea to Make a collage of me and my friends faces with a striking background like a lightning strike or somthing. So I got the relevant images into one folder but I have two problems.

1) Don't know how to cut stuff

Proberly me just being dumb

2) How would I get said cut image into the main picture

If anyone could help I'd be thankfull

Hey there,

You can just use the copy, cut and paste command to move things from layer to layer, or image to image.

The first thing you need to do is select the area of the image that requires 'cutting'. You can do this by using any number of Photoshop's selection tools. If it's basic try Quick Selection (from the tools palette on the left). If it's more technical try using the Colour Range command (Select -> Colour Range) or the Magnetic Lasso Tool (from the tools palette on the left). Generally speaking, the more complicated the subject you're trying to cut out, the more time and experienced you require.

When it's time to move the selected area to the new document, use the Move Tool (available from the tool palette on the left) and then simple drag it from it's host document into the new one. You can also perform a standard copy and paste (commands found in the edit menu).

It's a huge subject, but if you're willing to practice and take your time, you can do a credible job.

Good luck
