When I try and open a photo, it only opens in the navigator window on the layers palette. I am trying to open it in the main window and can't seem to figure this out. It happened once before and was fixed after a reinstall. This time it happened in the middle of editing and saving some photos. I haven't changed any settings and am really perplexed by this.
When I close the navigator window, the photo still only opens on the layers palette and not in the main window.
Any ideas?? |

Presumably you have tried pressing the f key several times to cycle through the screen modes, and closing down the program and opening it up again? What version of PS are you using? |

Have tried the f key. Have restarted a number of times and have even uninstalled and reinstalled. When I reinstalled, it worked ok for about 10 mins and then went back to the same problem.
I am using CS3 |

Try this: Close Photoshop, go to "username"< "Library", and rename it to "Library_two". Open up Photoshop and, if all is back to normal, go back to that folder and rename is back to "Library". Hope it works. |

Please be patient with me, I apologise for my ignorance, but where would I find that library file? I can't seem to find it anywhere. |

No need to apologise, my friend. Go to "computer"( or "my computer"), double click. Then double click on "C drive" ( or "local disk C" ). Double click on "users", then double click on your user name, then you should see a list of folders, one of which should be "Library".
If this doesn't work, you might consider your printer. Do you have more than one printer? Or perhaps you still have a printer you no longer use set as your default printer? Try deleting that printer and setting another one as your default. To do this go to the start button at bottom left of screen. Right click. Then click on "properties". Click on "customise". Then run through the list until you see "printers".Click and you will see a tick. Then you will always be able to access your printers from the start menu. Otherwise go though control panel and click "classic view" and choose "printers". Right click a printer to select/deselect it.
I'm assuming you have Vista; if it's XP it may be slightly different but you should be able to access "Printers" through Control Panel. |

I should have said in my initial post that I am using XP.
I followed your (excellent) instructions to find the library folder....and it is not there!! I even did a search for folers of that name and found nothing! Could this be part of the problem?
I only have one printer and have uninstalled and reinstalled to check. No luck there.
I have a home network set up and CS3 is set up on the other computer and all the same boxes and categories are ticked, so the settings are the same. The other computer has CS3 working fine.
This is a real puzzle and I do appreciate your time and effort on this. Thank you! |

Have you tried resetting your preferences? Ctrl+Alt+Shift while Photoshop starts up. Worth a shot. |
