Oh, I'm sorry if I made it seem worse than it is. If you've been going through all that stuff I'm sure you'll be fine. At the end of the day, though, it's only one exam. But I'll try not to be jealous if you get it first go ! |

I took the exam this week and managed to scrape a pass, I got 78% but after doing hours a day using 2 exam aids, completing the classroom in a book book I thought I would manage to get in to the 85% mark (I was getting 95%) on home tests.
It was quite a gruelling test. Some of it is really easy like especially the ones asking about tools but then some are really extremely difficult. The work flow ones arent too bad if you think logically. I got a question relating to the work flow of saving a raw image to Jpg for email, I dont know if I got it right (it doesnt tell you) but each option was a possible way of doing it so I went for what would logically be the shortest route.
I would suggest going through all the questions, answering all that you are 100% cert of, flag any others and at the end revisit them. Then sit take a breather and read very carefully those you are only 50% sure of. Then finally look at the last few and take a very slowly worked out a logical approach to guessing them. IE look at the answers, if its posing a solution for the shortest route the chances are the longest answer is not going to be the one you want or if it relates to options for a tool look at the ones you know are incorrect and pay them no more attention, form an image in your mind for the remaining and see if you get a gut feeling for the answer. Also remeber that the keyboard is there infront of you so you could alway envision using it in photoshop. I'm the same as most of you I don't remeber passwords, pin numbers or photoshop shortcuts until its time to use them and the key pad is there waiting. All this sounds simple but its easy to start to panic.
As far as prep is concerned get a study aid, I recommend examaids. Not ucertify, I bought both and the latter is nowhere near enough to pass. Trust me on this, I've complained to them about the lack of content. They updated it but still missed vital info I reported to them. Also check out Adobe TV they have some good books. Read through the CS5 help file, you can down load a PDF version if you google it and put in to practice anything you learn.
Finally, don't panic, it's only a test and even if you fail at the end you still know a hell of a lot more about Photoshop than you did before you started. _________________ Kind Regards

Thanks David, that review is really very helpful.
I was especially interested in hearing your opinion about the exam aids. I'm working through one of them - don't laugh, but I keep falling asleep at my desk if I do too many in one sitting!
[I have a sad story about a favourite tv show for which I only ever got to see the opening and closing credits because I would fall asleep.]
N3gATiVE, do you have any tips/opinions about exam aids? |
