The 2nd one looks quite a bit better :), you could add a bit more texture/craters tho, I'm not quite sure how you would go about doing this, but i'm pretty sure there is a good deviantart tutorial on this, you may want to check it out :).

thanks alot. as far as the craters go, the best i know how to make them is just use a good texture. the one i used for that was less 3d than the first pic, wich was just some dry dirt.
