I'd like to make a 3d earth and have it so that it will rotate on a click and drag (or similar) and (less important) rotate slowly on its own. Is there a relatively simple way of doing this? Is there a 3d rendering program that will make this easier? (I'm planning on buying one, this will help me make my decision). I also have Flash, and could do it in that, if possible.

there are many 3d rendering programs out there that will do the job!
you have:
Alias Maya http://www.alias.com/eng/index.shtml it's a very advanced package, with a high learning curve, so i don't know if you will like it!

discreet's 3d Studio Max, www.discreet.com
Newtek's lightwave 3d , www.newtek.com

these are all modeling and rendering packages in one!

there are a lot of other packages out there, that i don't know the name of! Big Wink
the best thing to do is see if they have a trial version, you may not be able to use all it's features but you will get a pretty good idea of how it works, and if you like it!

i think it's possible to import 3d objects into flash, but i don't know how it works, you might need a plugins of some sort!

btw: i have a lightwave 3d, and it's very easy to learn, at least that's what i think, i don't know it can compete with maya or 3d studio max tho Confused

Hope my blabla helped! Blush Blush

If you already have flash I would certainly reccomend that you look into the 2nd link that Moi gave (presume it's Swift 3D, didn't check).
