|
|
I have a couple of images that I would like to remove the background from but I am struggling as no matter which tool i select i can't remove the background color without affecting the picture.
I have attached a sample picture and all i want to do is change it so that there is no background color.
What is the best technique to do this???
Cheers

The pentool is worth learning for this type of image.
But if you are in a hurry you could also us the Polygonal tool to make you selection then delete the background...you'll need to soften the corners with an eraser... The pentool was make for this type of extraction.
I used the pentool then painted the red glow with a brush. I sampled a clean blue, set the brush mode to color then painted the red glow out with a medium soft brush.
The whole image had a yellow caste so I then applied a blue photofilter to clean it up even further.
Hope it helps.

WOW
that is brilliant but could you give me a more detailed run down as to how you have done that??? I tried the pen tool but couldn't work out how you got to just highlight the motor without the background.

SquirrlJ,
The background layer is locked by default..so...
You need to duplicate the layer and turn off the background layer, or double click the background layer and press ok.
Set the pentool to PATH (second icon accross the top, first is shape layer) Now you can go around with the pentool..once you have gone all the way around, right click and select MAKE SELECTION..press delete.
Did you try with out the pen tool..using the Polygonal selection tool? That is very simple. You just click your way around the edge of the machine until you reach the starting point then press delete.
Another way is to simply use the eraser tool set to 100% hard..make your first click the hold down the shift key and make you second click further down the machine...
if you need further instructions to work the pentool search this forum or google pentool or even PS help..its a matter of doing..hard to explain.
Good luck,
Lasa
