Hi,

Please can someone tell me why the vanishing point option is grayed out? I am new on CS2 V9. and really appreciating what a great toolkit this is.
I have a circular image facing in the vertical plane which I want to lay down horizontal and have as in perspective (like taking a ringed archery target and laying it on the floor).

I am assuming that I need the create plane tool and believe that I get to this through the vanishing point filter. Am I on the right track, and if so, what's blocking my way?

All help greatly appreciated.

Hi there
Not 100% sure what you mean. Is the image an RGB one? Have you tried to add a perspective transformation to your image (Edit > Transform > Perspective)? This may help a little.

Thanks Matt - that was a help because I had the image as CMYK and it did make the Vanishing Point filter available when I changed the mode.

Still lots of problems though. I can get into the create plane tool and create a perpendicular plane. I was expecting that I could clone and stamp the image to put it into the new plane but it only seems to be able to work with one layer (the one that was selected before I went into vanishing point). I tried grouping all layers that I need to move, but then it took the VP tool away. VP isn't available on a smart object. I tried selecting all layers but that also seems to grey out filters.

Is my problem that filters are designed to apply to only a single layer at a time? If so, how can I turn this multi-layer image into one single layer (and will that solve the problem)? I will be quite happy to lose any possibility of further editing of component layers.

Thanks for any help,

Good old RGB huh!
You're right about filters - they're only available when working with a specific layer - if you select multiple layers they become unavailable. It sounds like you're going to have to merge the layers you want to edit inside VP - then carry out the edits you require to the one layer you've created from the merge. If you've made a group of layers then you can right click on the group in the layers palette and select 'merge group'. This should merge all the layers inside the group to one independent layer than you can now use and edit inside the VP filter.
Hope this helps
