Hi i am a self taught hobbyist photoshop'er. My skills for my needs go as far as googling what I need to do to an image and then following the tutorial.

I want to take a soccer ball and make it look like the second death star from return of the jedi. I want to use this for a patch so the colors has to be 3 or 4. I have gotten everything except for the jagged edges of the death star, I am having problems creating a nice, distinct edge that looks similar to the death star, any suggestions?

Thanks for your help and ideas

I'm rather new to photoshop as well, but I think I may have found the effect you are looking for. How's this?

I wouldn't use that particular image, as it's a little messy, but the concept works. It was actually pretty simple to do.

Before you start though, you'll need the backgrounds of both images to be transparent, instead of white or black.

1. Load the deathstar image as a background layer.
2. Load the soccerball image over it as another layer.
3. Resize and position the soccerball to exactly cover the deathstar.
4. Create a clipping mask for the soccerball (alt+left click inbetween the layers), the ball should now be shaped like the death star.
5. Erase the part of the soccerball over the cannon (and any other parts you want to keep from the death star). This is easier to do if you temporarily lower the opacity of the soccerball layer so you can see the death star.
6. Partialy erase (lower the opacity of the eraser) the parts around the parts you want to see both the soccerball and the death star on. Such as the destroyed edges.

If you need any help with this just e-mail me (timmysassone@yahoo.com)
