I'm having a weird problem. I've got a number of images that are 300dpi which I need to save for the web. I've been able to take one image and change the dpi to 72 and then go into Image Ready and shrink the size some more. I've tried to automate the process but after I run a batch I actually get the files back double their original size. What might I be doing wrong here? I'm using PS 7 and, while in no way a professional, I can get by... except for this bit obviously! So, what's the best way to automate the process of turning my files into nice, lean web-ready images? I've been asking on other forums for days and, while there have been many, many readers of this question, there has been 0 response which leads me to believe that it's a stupid question or no one has an answer. I can take the fact that it may be a stupid question but I still need an answer so hopefully someone here can help me. |

Can you post your steps from the very beginning? So that I can attempt to recreate it on my set up and see if I can figure out what's going on? _________________ moondog

Thanks for the reply Moondog.
The action is simply opening the image size window, changing the dpi from 300 to 72 (keeping the dimensions the same) and that's it. When I run the action I set it up to change the file name to consecutive numbers and save to a different folder. Note that I've taken Image Ready out of the mix for now as I found I get the problem even without using it.
Here's where I think it's going wrong after experimenting a bit. When I run the action, I get the 'jpeg options window' with the slider and quality number and such before each image closes. If I leave it at maximum the file more than doubles in size even though I'm shrinking the dpi from 300 to 72. At least I think that's part of the issue if not the whole thing. Is there a way to bypass that as 1) it's annoying because even though it's supposed to be an automated batch it stops for each image and 2) I usually do the file shrinking in Image Ready.
as an example, I ran a 300 dpi 799x531 99kb file through the above action and it came out 247kb...
AS I said I THINK I know what's happening but I just don't know how to get around it... |
