I have been poking at Photoshop for awhile now and am just getting into some complicated items. A graphic designer wants me to provide him one of my images with a clipping path to remove the background.
1st off, why is a clipping path different or better than just masking the item and placing it on its own layer?
2nd, is there a way to take a mask of an item and turn it into a clipping path?
I have attached a smaller version of the image to this post. He wants a clipping path of just the scorpion, with no shadow or background. I can easily mask just the scorpion and put it on its own layer, but creating a clipping path takes alot more time.

You have to learn how to use the pen tool.
When you got that down, you have to trace the scorpion with a path, and apply a clipping path.
Use the tutorials you'll find on line to get to know the pen tool.
It's actually quite a good way of extracting something from it's background. Right now, it may seem a lot more trouble than masking another way but once you got the pen tool going, it will prove to be a very useful tool indeed.
