Canon CR2 Raw files-why can't I open them

I have a Canon camera that I use to shoot CR2 raw files but find I cannot open them in CS3 Photoshop or Bridge. I get the message that it does not recognise this type of file. Why is that?

The adobe website offers updates for this problem.
Just go here and take the last RAW update:
