I was downloading pictures from someone's memory chip and when I wanted to use the pics, I got an error of "broken picture" and can't proceed any further....

HI,
is it just one picture, it could be just a corrupted file.. that got corrupted either from the uploading or downloading.. slight possiblity that the memory could be a cause..
now if it all the pictures are like that.. then i start looking the file extention, maye it a extention that your program don't recognize or the extention is a flavor where the program don't know how to handle.. for example, there several different flavors (variations/versions) of the tiff and jpg formats.. once in a while i'll come across aversion that my program can't handle.. and what i do there is i use a different program (most cases my graphic viewer/conversions program) to open and resave the file .. theni can go back to my main program to open the new file..
