I'm hoping someone can help me remember how I added the pink color to the white highlights of this photo. I remember using desaturate, and then invert to get the basic black & white. I think I remember using a tool where I could slide to increase or decrease the amount of pink. If I slid it all the way to one side it turned the whole photo pink, if I slid it to the other side it took most or all of the pink out (leaving it black & white only). I've tried to reverse enginer it, but I've only found that airbrushing the pink comes close... but it's not identical. I remember it being much easier also. Thanks in advanced.
Oh, and it was a color tool that seemed to color mostly the whitest highlighted areas (as pictured). I've tried to add "hue" but it colors even the gray shades (looking to color only highlights to give that "glow").

..... Cool picture.. lol

Looks like you inverted, desaturated. then made a new layer and set it to color. then took a soft brush, and drew pink on the hair :)

If that's not how u did it, that's how you can replicate it.

eSeM,
thanks so much for the reply. Your instructions sound so familiar. I'm going to go try it now. At the very least I've got some new direction. I've been stuck at this for a while. Unfortunately I saved the finished work as a .jpg (months ago) but never saved the .psd I hopefully won't make that mistake again.
Thanks again.

OK, with eSeM's help I've gotten a little closer. I think what I did was to create a duplicate layer and a layer of pink. Then on the duplicate I used the magic wand to pick the whitest color area. Then cut that area out revealing he pink layer. I just can seem to make it as blended or smooth as it was originally. The pink is coming through kind of loud and harsh, instead of soft & smooth.
I'll keep working. (maybe anti-aliasing??)

OK, for those even remotely interested...
I think it comes down to how I select the white (to cut and allow the pink to show through). I've been trying to use the magic wand... but I'm not find a "feathering" style of selection, to get that smooth look at the edges when cutting. Anyone with a suggestion?

Hello all.
I'm still seeking assistance with this project. My selection of the "white areas" didn't entirely solve all of my issues (though it helped). Now I wondering if I didn't erase some of the color layer behind the image in order to maintain the "feathering" effect and the detail.... ??? I still remember it being simple, but now I wonder if it didn't take a lot of effort after all. ANY new suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
