It tells me right away to restore the preferences by holding down Ctrl+Alt+Shift upon opening the program. This is so the lessons and the book match. When I do this I am supposed to be prompted by a dialogue box and to click yes to confirm that I want to delete the Adobe Photoshop settings file. NOTHING EVER HAPPENS!!! |

Hi anneke,
The first thing I have to ask is ... are you trying to do this AFTER you've opened Photoshop? If so, that is most likely your problem.
As soon as you click to open Photoshop you need to hit the buttons CTRL+ALT+SHFT
I just tried it with CS2 and it worked fine for me ... the dialogue box came up just as you said it should for you. _________________ moondog

First of all thank you for answering my question. I have pushed these keys before after and during trying to get any,,, response. I wonder now after using CS4 for a month or two, how I would reset the preferences if I had to, and how would I know if It was needed? I have the experience of a few years of using Paint Shop Pro, but still a beginner in many ways. I tried the support FAQ and the same answer came up Alt,Ctrl and Shift keys. So far nothing dreadful has happened, but I am expecting the worst, of course! |

You know, back when I was in college and learning Photoshop, every time we came into class the teacher reminded us to reset the preferences just in case the prior student had changed something (there were 3 classes of students using the same computers).
If you're the only person using that computer and using Photoshop, I don't really think you have much to worry about as far as resetting preferences. You should be fine.
Perhaps the dialog box doesn't come up because your preferences never changed .... I'm not sure. _________________ moondog

I changed a few of the preferences, just to see if I could provoke the machine into asking me the " Question ", but still nothing happens. It is a mystery. Thanks for your response. |

you're welcome .... wish I could help more .... since it works on mine (running CS2) I'm at a loss now why it's not working for you. Not sure if it's a glitch in CS4 or not. _________________ moondog

I don't know what made it finally respond after sooooo many tries, but I changed a bunch of the preferences in a Frenzy and jolted it out of it's stupor! It has responded twice now. Thank you so much for responding to my question, I live in France and do not know a soul who does this sort of thing, so felt rather alone in the world! |
