Hi, I have tried several sections of the web to get this.
I want to take a picture, and highlight the subject, in this case a flower, and make the background transparent. The suggestions I have found always tell me to do something that doesn't work. Like create a new layer and then drag it below the first layer, which it will not do.
The other has been to use the Magic Wand tool, highlight, and then hit the delete button. That doesn't work only puts another color in the BG.
The reason I am needing to do this, is that I cannot get the background in the picture to match the background on the page, in spite of putting in the exact same numbers!
So far I have searched out and read about 30 suggestions for doing this, each one is totally different from the others! LOL and so far none have worked!

hi,
when working with a single layer you will get that result of deleting and you get another color instead of the transpaency indiction...
now this is always something i always do... when i bring in a picture I automatically will a duplicte layer. and if required turn off the orginal. .... and work with that dupl layer ..... now when you select portions and delete you will then see the transparency indictions (the grey checkerboard patterern...
now another way if using the that orginal single layer ... is seletect your object and then do a copy and paste a secound layer will automatically be created with just the selection on it and then you can turn off the eye on the first layer...
keep in mind basiclly only gif or png and maybe one or two other formats, will maintain the transparency when you save... jpg won't!
also your not restricted to just the magic wand, you can use many tools or features to select a object or area..!
I am just a novice but i hope I was of some help...

When you've use the wand tool to highlight the background, invert the selection to get the flower, copy, open a new file with a transparent background (size will be that of your clipboard data) and paste in.
Note the restrictions above on file formats which will save the transparency - GIF, PNG24, and of course PSD.
