Hello all, nice to be here, maybe someone can help me out. Just installed CS4. I have 8 Gigs of Ram Installed running on Vista 64. In CS4 64 bit, it sees all of the RAM of course and runs very smooth and snappy, even with large files(I left it at default RAM allocation just over 4 gigs). However, most of my plugins are not 64bit compatible so I am also running the 32 bit version for those plugins. Since photoshop 32 bit version only sees about 3255MB Ram, can I set the RAM allocation at 100%? Will Vista 64 use the balance that photoshop does not see since it sees the remaining 4+ gigs? I do have a second seperate drive for a scratch disk but I woujld rather not have to resort to a scratch disk with 8 Gigs of Ram installed, kind of defeats the purpose. Any input would be appreciated, I cannot find any literature on this topic at the photoshop website.

Hi Carlo,

I, like you, use both 64 and 32 bit versions of Photoshop. It is to my experiment that the two versions treat their settings differently. You can have a 3255MB allocation in 32 bit and 4500MB allocation in 64 bit. I believe that because the two versions are not installed in the same directory, their settings operate independent of each other, even in the AppData folder. So, 64bit will see all of the 4500MB and 32bit will see all of its 3255MB.

Thanks for the input. I am not running them at the same time, I just didn't want errors and such if I do set the 32bit version to run at 3255MB. So far at 3255 its been good so we'll see how it goes I guess.

Thanks Sublimity. Carlo's question was exactly the question I have. Glad to have an answer.
