Hi all,

I wonder if someone could please help me recreate the following.

I have a .PSD file (see attached JPEG example) and there are various images with a specific border on them.

What I want to do is to be able to is create such a border for other images I have.

If someone could tell me it would be very much appreciated.

I'm a total beginer when it comes to Photoshop so I need some basic assistance.

Many thanks

Hi all,

I have found the following:

Step 1 - Open your Adobe Photoshop program.

Step 2 - Create a new file by going to File > New.

Step 3 - Open the image that you want to use by going to File > Open.

Step 4 - In your Layers Panel, Click on the Channels Tab.

Step 5 - Click the Create New Channel icon in the bottom of the panel. The new Channel will be Alpha 1. This will also turn your image black.

Step 6 - In the Tools Panel select the Rectangular Marquee Tool and draw a rectangle on the image. Leave enough room between your rectangle and the edge of the image for the border.

Step 7 - In the top of your Photoshop window Click Select > Inverse.

Step 8 - Click on your Foreground Color to select the color that you want your border to be.

Step 9 - In the top of your Photoshop window click Edit > Fill. A dialog box will appear, click OK.

Step 10 - In the top of your Photoshop window click Select > Deselect.

Step 11 - In the Channels Panel, click on the RGB Channel.

Step 12 - In the top of your Photoshop window click Select > Load Selection.

Step 13 - In the top of your Photoshop window click Edit > Fill.

Step 14 - Then Click Select > Deselect.

Which I have followed; however, it creates a black border based on the ALPHA channel. I guess this is a good starting point; however, I would like the border to be as per the example image which has a white border and equally I would like to add this to many images of the same size.

Can anyone please assist me with this?

Thanks

The image is small, but I think you are looking for a bevel border. I would select the image layer, and go up to Layer, Layer Styles, then Bevel and Emboss and mess around with the settings until you get a desired result.

If you want that "grey frame" around the image. you can go to Select, Load Selection, then select the image layer, then create a new layer, go up to Select, Modify, then Expand by a couple of pixels, fill that select with your choice of grey or color. and use the layer style on that.

That's just one way of doing it, whether or not it's the easiest is beyond me, I always seem to take the more complicated route. lol
