Is there a way so that, when I finish painting a Brush stroke, it automatically becomes selected? Or something else having the same effect? It would help me considerably.

If it's on it's own layer you can Ctrl+Click on the eye of that layer in the layers pallet to select it. If not on it's own layer, no.
