that's some nice art work Photoshop could handle those graphics but I'm not sure what method was used I would say someone very skilled with (with the brushes) did it, not something your going to learn in a week or so. |

Thanks for letting me know that these are probably brushes. I am wondering if they are custom brushes. I normally use Fireworks for my web graphics because to me it is more user friendly but I need to become more comfortable with Photoshop. Fireworks does not have the capability to create brushes. There are many sites out there that I can get free brushes and I have a ton of books and am a member of Lynda.com so I am learning to use Photoshop but I want to go that extra step and learn how to create the type of graphics that I posted. Is there any resources out there that can teach this? |

I learned that you either have the skill of creating art or manipulating it,I'm sorry to say I'm good at manipulating it rather than starting with a blank canvas. It is impossible to tell if the image was produced from scratch or a bunch of others were used to create one,My guess is some one very skilled used variety of brushes, plus other tools to create kit layer by layer.
Look up tutorials for photoshop or check this sites tutorials pages

I can create a lot of graphics from scratch in Fireworks but I agree that I am better at manipulating. I like to take ideas from looking at others works and seeing if I can create something unique by combining what elements I like for each work. That is how I work with my web clients. I ask them to find sites they like and sites they don't like and let me know what elements from each stand out for them. Then I take those suggestions and create their sites. Since I want to do a gaming site, I can be very creative with the graphics due to it not being a "business site". I want to do something that stands out and is not just a site for a bunch of info for the game. I want it to be eye-popping. I believe I will also have to learn to use Illustrator as well but for now I will focus on getting comfortable with Photoshop.
With the free brushes that I have found is there an easy way to learn to color them or does that also take years of experience to manipulate them just right with color and texture? Here is another example that just blew my mind and if this one uses brushes as well, it would take a lot to get the color and texture just right. I can't even imagine how many layers are used in this one. I can buy these templates and then tear them apart to find out how they are put together but just don't have the funds right now to do that. I would not want to copy them, just get an idea of how to do my own brushes and what it takes to put them together. http://foxdenwebsolutions.com/fantasy/Fantasy_Template_by_karsten.jpg |
