Hi All,

This is my first time posting.
I've been playing with Photoshop for awhile and like it a lot.

I'm currently working on a project that requires a large amount of TIFF images (300+) to be cut up into layers ( separating Characters / Objects / Background etc) so that they can be animated in Flash.

I've never been very good at this. I've used to the Magnetic lasso tool to cut out certain parts of images with mixed success.

Would someone be able to help me and go step by step what I need to do ( something like highlight the area desired, cut and paste it into a new layer etc ).

Is there any tool in PS for doing this kind of thing automatically. Does anyone have any tips or streamlining the process as there are so many images.?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it

Actions are used to record and then replay repetitive tasks, but I doubt they would do you much good for what you are describing.

If you can post one of the images, it would be easier to give you some guidance.

theiliad,

the best tool for the job is the extract tool. Which up until CS3 was located in Filter > Extract.

(If you're using CS4, Adobe annoyingly removed it and has it as an "optional" plugin, you can download the PC or Mac version)

There are plenty of video tutorials on how to use the extract tool, try a youtube search.

Hope this was what you're looking for!
