any tips how to "remove" the lighting from this picture?

I assume you are trying to eliminate the pattern on the picture. For that you will need to use a fast fournier plug-in. Make sure you read the how to instructions. You can get it for free here:

The picture could be restored but it would require a lot of time and patience.

I did just a small portion on the bride's face to demonstrate. This was done using the clone tool, and painting on a separate layer. Both with very soft brushes set to low opacity and built up slowly.

Use the 'Levels' command. Ctrl+L
