Hi there, I've been using photoshop for a number of years, started with PS7 and just recently got back into and got CS4. After looking around I realize I know pretty much nothing about it. I never work with masks, vectors, coloration, none of that. I looked at a book store today but only saw books for CS3, so before I buy one online or find one for download or something, can anyone recommend one?

I'm not a total noob when it comes to working with PS, just in almost everything that has to do with it XD I do photo manipulation mainly.

CS3 and CS4 aren't all that much different. Before you buy, you should check your local library. Any book on PS regardless of the version will give you information on masks, layers. etc.

''Photoshop CS4 for dummies'' may help you a lot. The Adobe Illustrator one helped me. It's really easy to read and very objective.

Hey Jaegur,

I agree with hawkeye, many times you can find good resources at a local library.

If nothing's about, and you're into photo manipulation, then I'd recommend Deke McClelland's Photoshop CS4 One-on-One: Channels and Masks. It's a great book but quite advanced. If you want to learn the basics I'd suggest his other book : Photoshop CS4 One-on-One. They can both be found here-

Good luck

I read books a lot when trying to learn photoshop techniques, I found them technically accurate but useless as a teaching medium.
I find video tutorials, either on a disc or on the net as the best way of learning photoshop, but maybe thats just me.
Virtually any photoshop skill you want, is covered by someone on youtube or linked from there to another site .
You take that technique and refine it to your own needs.
