After loading a photo and creating a new layer so that I can make adjustments I don't seem to be able to select a tool eg a brush. Every time I move the cursor into the photo it returns to being the little hand icon and therefore won't let me paint (or do anything to the photo.
Sure this is a basic question but if anyone can help I would appreciate it!

That will happen if you press the space bar. Make sure it's not stuck, or that you are leaning on it by mistake. |

Thanks Hawkeye - a reboot of my machine seems to have cleared this so it may well have been a stuck space bar or something.
Anyway - problem sorted. But many more to be overcome!!
