Hey guys I was wondering if its possible to drag an image from explorer directly into your current open canvas..Meaning: without opening a new document drag the image into your document that is currently open....

Normally I would do this: drag an image from explorer to Photoshop. Photoshop opens it as a new document. Then I drag that image into the desired canvas and than I need to close that document again...That's annoying big time..

I searched on the net..Couldnt find anything on this..But I read something about actions..I tried to make a droplet for this but didn't work..

Anybody has ideas on this??

No you don't understand...First of all i have a pc. But that doesnt matter because this issue occurs on a mac as well..

I can open an image but what photoshop does it makes a new document. If I have a document already open, I want to drag an image from explorere directly in my document that was open..Not in a new document...

Why am i asking this: Here's why:
Opening a new document is conusming a lot of memory in the first place and if you have opened like 3 stocks 4 c4ds and some other images for making a signature thats a lot of memory waste...Plus you have to close them all afterwards which is memory consuming as well..

So I need the "place" function of photshop when I drag my image into photoshop...

Ok hope its a bit clear now

So why not just COPY the image in IE and then paste onto the image you already have open. Wouldn't that do what you're asking? Or is there a specific need to be able to drag it and drop it?

Nope..That doesnt work for transparent pictures. It makes transparent pictures non transparent...And Im not referring to internet explorer...Im referring to explorerer as in file manager..I cant copy a file and then paste into the document thats open..

Look what I'm looking at is the "place" function of photoshop...

Hi there i do realise that you have a pc & not a mac but why are you opening the images from file manager? when you say transparent are you referring to an image that does not have a background i.e. solid colour such as white if so when you open an image in PS it will always open non transparent if saved as a Jpeg it needs to be saved as a psd file or tiff.

I open my images from a filemanager because I have a ton of directories to quickly look up my resources and open them from the filemanager..This is way easier and because I like to drag and drop rather than open a dialog box and search for the item to open..

Ok if thats your preference fine, when i had a pc i never opened images that way so i cannot explain why yo are having this problem.

the only thing i go back to is how are your images saved. as i said in my previous post if they are not in PSD or Tiff they will not open with a transparent background, so try saving in a different format to see if it works.
