Is it possible to edit the points made when using the magnetic lasso tool?

I'd like to be able to improve the area of the selection where the tool misses parts of what I need included.

Cheers
Barry

One way to accomplish this is to turn the selection produced by the lasso tool into a path, modify it, then turn it back into a selection.

1. Use the lasso tool.
2. Right click and choose Make Work Path...
3. Edit the path
4. In the path list, right click on the work path and choose Make Selection...

Hope this helps

Hi Barry,

Another way of accomplishing the same thing would be to make the selection, the best you can, using the Magnetic Lasso Tool (or the selection tool of your choice). Then, click on the "Quick Mask" icon at the bottom of the tools panel. Paint with black and/or white to edit the selected area as desired. Click the Quick Mask icon again and you should have a nice clean selection.

Hi Guys,

Thanks for that, perhaps I've not explained well what I'm trying to do very well.

Once I've used the Lasso tool, I want to improve the line the tool's drawn. Sometimes the tool misses areas I want to include in the selection, it's these areas I want to add or remove from the selection.

I was trying to find out if I could do this by somehow adjusting the actual line selection made by the tool.

Save your magic wand selection as an alpha channel.
(Selection>Save Selection)

Then display your image but "paint" on your channel to edit. You can use any tools you want. Hard or soft brushes, smudge tool, etc.

When you're done, make a selection of your channel, click back on your image, and you're back in business.
(Selection>Load Selection)

If you want "points", you can make a work path from your magic wand selection but they're usually more trouble than they're worth. AND they have a gazillion points.

Also, the most accurate way of selecting anything is with the pen tool.
