I am looking for a way to select all pixels that are near to a certain colour so i can delete them and make an image transparent.
For example lets say i have an image with a white background. I would like to delete all white and white-ish pixels so that only the rest remains. The magic wand sometimes takes multiple selections and even select part of the image that i want to keep. |

I have used a plug in filter from Cybia called Alphaworks and this can be used to remove black or white areas from an image. It is freeware and you can adjust the sliders in it to get a better result. Just remember to make the image a layer first so you get a transparent background in the image.
Another two are from Mehdi and they are called Eraser Classic and Eraser Genuine and they both can make certain colours transparent aswell. Again they are freeware plugins. |

Oh thanx man, alphawors did a great job. Although to compleetely remove the background the image seems a little bit washed out and not as vivd as it should have remained.
Is there any additional step to restore it near it's original state after i've removed the background? |

Download Eraser Classic and Eraser Genuine and see if they do a better job. They have more controls than Alphaworks. |
