I would like to be able to create repeat patterns from (selected parts) of photographs of my paintings and change background colours etc. Can anyone advise me on what my first step should be in terms of which software to buy as I have no previous experience or software to date. I have windows vista. |

Start learning photoshop. You can make repeat's with it. _________________ FREE PHOTOSHOP TUTORIALS: http://www.redpixelmedia.com

Depending on the software that you have: (I realise that Photoshop is a pretty good bet!!!)

Obviously this an Illustrator only plugin, but it gives a flavour. Other than that I would look at tutorials involving texturising, patterns and repeating or tesselating patterns.
