I'm trying to go through this tutorial but I am stuck on Steps 6 and 7. Every time I alt-click the layer mask button for the curved line layer, it disappears instead of showing behind the original girl layer. Please help.

Try this instead: Don't alt-click, after the selection is made highlight the stroked layer and just click the layer mask button at the bottom of the layers palette. If it's reversed hit ctrl-i.

Thanks for the reply. I have the stroke layer behind the girl now but I can't seem to get parts of the line in front of the girl. It is literally driving me mad. If someone can direct me to another tutorial that shows you how to do this, I would greatly appreciate it. I have included an example of a picture of a girl with effects wrapping around her hands. This is what I am trying to achieve.

Move the stroke layer to the top.

His instructions say that after hitting the layer mask button, it will put the stroked line bi=ehind the girl. Whatever. Your way worked and instead of bringing the line out in front of the girl, i just brushed away the parts that are suppose to be behind her. Thanks a lot.

Try changing the color from black to white on the tools bar below, that's why you can't brush in the line.. once the layer mask is black that means the brush should be white color.

That's how it works...

Cheers
