Whats the simplest way to cut out an item? so it leaves nice edges and a clean finish?
this is what we need to cut out we have many items to do like this so it takes a while?

id start by bringing the model forward and placing a light just on the reflector that is behind it this will create a good contrast between the clothing and the background making it easier to cut out.
how i cut things like this out is i create a layer mask over the image then create a white layer underneath use the magic wand tool to select the white background then fill with black, make sure u have the layer mask selected
this is a good way of working as you can easily put bits back in by painting in the layer mask with white.

A silhouette using the pen tool can also get you to the layer mask stage outlined by kailasgurung.
I find the pen tool takes some of the "shakes" out of my hand. (It also pretty good at cutting off wrinkles!)
I do this type of stuff regularly on wetsuits and scuba BC's. The fun part is filling the collar in with a "hole" instead of a mannequin or props. |

With the background, i have been reading about some interesting video editing blue/green screen techniques. People have been using large LCD TVs as a backlight green screen. It seems to get really good results from the contrast. |
