I scanned some 8x10 negatives at 800 dpi. The resulting files are close to 300 mb. I also want to make the files small enough, as jpegs, to post online. But even when I reduce, rename and save the Photoshop file to 6 mb it still won't give the option of saving as a jpeg. Is there any way around this? I don't want to have to scan 40-50 images again. Thanks.

I figured it out - the files were 16 bit and must be 8 bit. Thanks

HMMM.I had a similar problem and I never resolved it.I bought more RAM and ended up having someone else do the photoshop work for me. The new RAM really helped however.
I am usually writing so I don't have to much time to work on photoshop, but on the occasions when I needed help the people here helped me quite a bit.
